Fall Fabric Brooch

Hi Friends!

I finished up today's craft earlier than I am posting. However, The Landlord had to come over to inspect the ceiling. Last week's rain caused a bubble to form in the kitchen. Apparently that's where the old fireplace used to be and it causes leaks every where. Would have been good to know...

On to our craft: Fabric Brooch

What I used:
  • 2 complementing cotton fabric scraps (had on hand)
  • 1 piece of felt ($0.34 @ Joann's)
  • Sewing needle and thread
  • Scissors
  • Safety pin

I cut a 10x2 inch strip from one fabric and a 5-inch circle out of the second. Then, using a 1-inch button I traced and cut out 8 circles from felt.

Working with the felt circles first, fold one circle in half,

and then in half again.

Whip a couple of stitches where the two ends of felt meet. Once you have created 7 "petals" start stitching them to the 8th felt circle.

Set the flower aside and fold the 10 inch piece of fabric in half with wrong sides together. Baste a stitch along   the raw edges, gather and set aside.

With the circle of fabric I ran a basting stitch around the perimeter and gathered. For what ever reason I neglected to take pictures of these steps. But you can take a look at my Fabric Pumpkins post for my visual learners. :) Flatten out the fabric with the gathering in the middle and stitch the gathers together.

I cut a small square of felt and whip stitched the safety pin to it. You can use simple stitches or fabric glue to attach the different pieces of the brooch together. I sewed the pin onto the brooch, but it flops around a lot so I would recommend fabric glue or a glue gun.

And there you have it! A super-fun, pretty easy brooch. :) Let me know if you have any questions!

xoxo.

Templates and Turn Offs

Hi Friends!

Long time no see! I have been feeling a little under the weather, and also working on a new blog template for my favorite fair-weather friend, Milagro Speaks!

I have also been having issues with my laptop as it loves to turn off on its own at very inconvenient times. You know, in the middle of editing a photo, when attempting to add new fonts, or when I'm just about done with a long blog post in NotePad and I haven't yet saved it or moved it over to blogger. Awesome. :)

I should be getting my severance check soon and will be getting a new computer then. I can't hardly wait!

I'm a Liebster!

Kaylynn ZoeMichelle, AND Brandi nominated me for the prestigious Liebster Award!

I am overjoyed (should I be?)!! I kind of want to go do some cartwheels in the front yard, but I don't want to go OVERBOARD.

11 Things:

  1. I participated in a traveling youth circus for three months after I graduated high school. We went all over the pacific northwest, even into Canada.  For a country bumpkin like me, this was a BIG DEAL. One of the best summers of my life.
  2. I was diagnosed with uterine cancer in 2009 a complication of PCOS.  I had a total hysterectomy in January of 2010. I was 26. I always knew I was going to be ok. There was no question in my mind when it came down to treatment. My life was(is) more important than any child that I may or may not be able to have. My advice to other young women who have severely intermittent periods? TALK TO YOUR DOCTOR! If I wasn't diagnosed so early the outcome may have not been the same.
  3. I have lost 100 pounds in the last two years. The key to my success is to eat less and wait longer between eating. :) I have 63 pounds to go!
  4. I have Adult Attention Deficit Disor
  5. I can (and will) watch reruns Friends or The Simpsons any time, any where.
  6. I worked as a nursing assistant for 6 years. I loved working with Alzheimer's patients and the tips they sometimes left on their dressers. KIDDING! I would never take money from someone with diminished capacity. But they really did try to leave tips. So cute.
  7. In high school I performed in musicals and plays. My favorite was The Music Man and I played Ethel Toffelmier a frumpy 30-something who loves to gossip with the older women in town.
  8. Some people say I'm a picky eater. I say that I just know what I love and don't want to have anything else. I give amazing food recommendations.
  9. I'm really good at starting projects and not finishing them. (see 4)
  10. My favorite flavor of ice cream is Deep Fried Ice Cream. I hope that makes sense. I don't mean the dessert treat that you can get at Mexican restaurants. Its like they took that dessert, threw it into a blender and poured it into a carton. A-mazing. Its sold at Fred Meyer (Kroger). Yumo!
  11. I love DVR. Love.

Kaylynn's Questions:

    • Kathryn Leann but I go by Katie.
  2. What is your quest?
    • To live a happy life surrounded by family and friends.
  3. What is your favorite color?
    • I have such a hard time picking just one! My blog has changed a lot because I couldn't decide on colors, it was just way too busy. But I think I've worked it out. Anyway if I had to say my favorite color is purple. Most def.
  4. If you could marry (or date) a celebrity, who would it be?
    • Probably Seth Rogan. I like my men short, fuzzy and funny.
  5. What's your "go-to" nail color?

  10. What color are your eyes?
    • My eyes are sometimes green, sometimes blue, sometimes gray. Not sure if the change has to do with the weather or what I wear.
  11. What words best describe you?
    • An all-around kick in the pants!

Michelle's Questions:

  1. What was your favorite food when you were a child?
    • Macaroni and cheese with hotdogs :) Add a little ketchup and you're good to go!

  7. How did your blog get it's name?
    • Well, at the time there was so much going on in my life that I thought I was going crazy. But things have slowed down some, so I hope to get off the computer eventually and do some crafting.
  8. What is one dream you have for the future?
    • To own a home and be fully sustainable with chickens, goats, fish, gardens, a cow. I can't wait!
  9. What is the best gift you have ever received?
    • My family was poor growing up. My mom couldn't afford super-expensive gifts, but I wanted one thing more than anything else. When I opened my present Christmas morning it was a BOOMBOX WITH A CD PLAYER! You can bet I played my Lion King soundtrack over and over again. It wasn't the most expensive gift I have received, but it was the perfect gift at the time. I felt spoiled.
  10. What do you miss most about being a kid?
    • Being oblivious. Life is really hard. I miss my childhood fog sometimes.
  11. What do you love most about being you?
    • I love recognizing how much I am growing and changing every day!

National coming out day

Hi friends!

Today is national Coming Out Day. I am thrilled to say that I was raised to believe that "a person is a person no matter how small" or gay. I added that last past. We all deserve love and no one has the right to say how that love must look. I love everyone!

Trev and I are off to Seattle for the day. Making a stop at IKEA of course. :)

You'd think that was the line for the ferry,
but its just Canadians waiting for gas at Costco...
